The Nomzamo centre is sponsored by the Cape Business Development fund and a partner of the CBD, Percy Frederick's, is on the ground expanding the business centre in Lawandele for the local community. Concept Steel Creations was a tenant in a smaller factory owned by Percy and he was so impressed with the quality of workmanship and professionalism that he asked Concept Steel Creations to quote for this substantial piece of engineering work to extend the roof and walls of the Shoprite centre.
This project has been a great success and a tribute to the capabilities of Concept Steel Creations and its willingness to help the local community by ensuring the lowest possible costs combined with the usual high standards of workmanship. But every thing was not as straight forward as it seemed since the super market had to continue with its normal trading and time was a factor. We had to remove sections of the wall to enable us to attached the new beams of the roof extension. This was quite a challenge since the normal flow of all the customers had to continue without any obstruction or inconvenience to them.
To our satisfaction and achievement there was no injuries or damage to stock or property. Above all none of the beams could be installed with hydraulic lifts as we would usually do since there is no access for the vehicles to enter the site. With a eager team and some help of the community and Percy's site foreman Sipho, we overcome this challenge by lifting all of the beams by hand. This was the dangerous part of the whole the project since a slight mistake could cause the beams to fall down. With no interruptions the roof sheeting was up and the final demolishing of all the internal walls was done. With the walls away and the roof covering done one only then could see what a big difference the extra space made to the small but very busy trading store. Most of the work was now completed to the interior of the shop. There was some other aspects that needed our attention such as security.
On the outside of the building we had to manufacture some pretty durable security gates since crime is a big kopseer... "ishh" It was back to the factory

Percy Frederick's and Johan Knoetze on site in Nomzamo Business Centre.
Percy chatting with the local police inspector after thief's tried to drag the Shoprite safe away using ropes. Of course it was far to heavy but worth a try we assume!
After this incident Percy requested a quote from Concept Steel Creations for an additional security gate on the premises.
Some of the other shop keepers and traders in the business centre approached us to do similar gates for them since there existing gates is not up to standard to cope with the constant braking methods used by these "affirmative" shoppers.
The roof is in progress.
